Hi, I’m Phil Balsdon, a cinematographer and steadicam operator based in Sydney, Australia. I’ve been working in the film and television industry since 1970 and since 1986 as a freelancer.
As a cameraman I started in live television (black and white back then!) and as a freelancer moved into documentaries, commercials and corporate productions. Steadicam skills learnt whilst learnt whilst working on television drama gave me the opportunity to do some operating on feature films and work with some of the world’s best directors and directors of photography.
As well as being an immensely satisfying career creatively it has also given me the opportunity to travel to many fascinating and remote places in the world.

The JVC GY-HD100e is an NTSC model, it will work but you will need to select settings with the frame rates to match your shot video.
Mr. Balsdon, I want to thank you so much. Your video tutorial of how to upload video from my JVC into FCP has been more than useful. Ever since I bought the camera I’ve suffered when capturing from tape into Final Cut Pro. I’ve read so many trouble shooting threads but only your settings have worked for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You’re the man!!!
Cheers from Mexico,
Mike Palafox
